To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the future of the multi-fibre arrangement.

Multilateral negotiations to agree a successor regime to govern international trade in textiles after the M FA expires on 31 July 1991 have been taking place as part of the wider GATT Uruguay round. The United Kingdom and EC, together with all other negotiating partners, are committed to integrating the textiles sector into GATT on the basis of strengthened rules and disciplines.
