HC Deb 23 January 1991 vol 184 cc222-3W
19. Mr. McAllion

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry if he will make a statement on the progress of the Uruguay round of the GATT and its implications for the manufacturing sector in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Lilley

As I said earlier, negotiations in the Uruguay round are continuing, and we hope they will yield results which will be of substantial benefit to United Kingdom industry. As we export about a quarter of what we produce, we stand to gain from the opening up of world markets, and to share in the greater wealth that trade generates.
