What subsidy was given to CalMac Ferries Ltd. for 1989–90 and 1990–91; how much of this subsidy has been repaid, or is likely to be repaid; and what were CalMac Ferries Ltd.'s profits in 1989–90 and 1990–91.

The announced revenue support grants for Caledonian MacBrayne Ltd. in 1989–90 and 1990–91 were £6.28 million and £5.438 million respectively. The grant actually paid in 1989–90 was £5.548 million and it is estimated that for 1990–91 the grant paid will be £5.499 million. These figures take account of recoveries of un-utilised grant from the company of £0.732 million and £0.223 million for its financial years ended 31st December 1988 and 31st December 1989.

The profit shown in Caledonian MacBrayne's statutory accounts for the year ended 31st December 1989 was £300,000 before tax. The figure for 1990 is not yet available.
