To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of school leavers attained (i) university minimum entrance qualifications and (ii) no qualifications in Scotland in 1990 or the latest available date.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

The percentage of school leavers who left during session 1988–89, having attained university minimum entrance qualifications—three or more highers—was 24.4 per cent. and the percentage leaving with no qualifications was 11.9 per cent. These are the latest figures available.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what percentage of school leavers left at ages (i) 16 years, (ii) 17 years, and (iii) 18 years or later in Scotland in 1990 or the latest available year.
