§ Mr. ChopeThe Department's Transport and Road Research Laboratory's programme of research includes development and assessment of highway engineering and traffic management techniques for reducing casualties. Recent publications have included the results of the "Urban Safety Projects" in five towns which have shown that, if those techniques were applied nationally, road accidents could be reduced by some 5 per cent.
