HC Deb 27 February 1991 vol 186 cc508-9W
Mr. Hume

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many(a) 16-year-olds and (b) 17-year-olds in Northern Ireland were in receipt of a bridging allowance; and what proportion of those who had exhausted their entitlement to a bridging allowance still had not secured a training place under the youth training programme in the past 12 months.

Mr. Needham

The information is not available in the form requested. However, 1,975 16 and 17-year-olds received bridging allowance in the 12 months to January 1991. At 22 February 1991, 172 young people who had exhausted their entitlement to bridging allowance had not yet secured a training place on the youth training programme.

Mr. Hume

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many 16 and 17-year-olds have not been offered places on YTP schemes in the past 12 months.

Mr. Needham

Every 16 and 17-year-old who has sought a place on the programme in the past 12 months has been offered one.
