To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions he has had with the north-west TUC, chamber of commerce and chamber of trade about the viability of trade and industry in the north-west region.

I have held no meetings to date with these regional bodies. The Government's policies are aimed at the long-term prosperity of trade and industry in all regions of the United Kingdom.
