HC Deb 20 February 1991 vol 186 c186W
Mr. Galbraith

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland, further to his reply of 28 January,Official Report, column 416, about the Scottish lithotripsy service, what is the level of demand that would justify a lithotripsy service in the West of Scotland.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 11 February 1991]: It would be for a health board to consider whether current and likely future demand could justify the considerable capital investment involved in providing a second lithotripsy service. However, since the existing service can treat urgent cases within a few days and routine cases within two weeks, it is unlikely that the case for such investment could be made in the foreseeable future.
