Mr. Foulkes

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what qualifications are possessed by Mr. J. Cahill, Mr. W. M. Ritchie, Mr. I. B. Valentine, Mr. J. W. G. Donaldson, Mrs. A. Dumbar and Dr. K. G. Fegan relevant to their appointment as non-executive members of Ayrshire and Arran health board; whether any record is kept of their political affiliations; what other appointments by the Secretary of State are held by any of them; and what are the conditions of termination of their appointment following a change of Government.

Mr. Michael Forsyth

[holding answer 15 February 1991]: All the non-executive members are considered to have experience and ability enabling them to make a valuable personal and collective contribution to the board's work. A central record is not maintained of health board members' political affiliations. The persons in question do not hold other appointments by the Secretary of State. Non-executive members of health boards are appointed for a fixed term of office of two or four years.
