HC Deb 06 February 1991 vol 185 c157W
Mr. Amos

To ask the Secretary of State for Health (1) if he will make a statement on the progress in implementing a smoke-free policy throughout his Department;

(2) if he will make it his policy to ensure that every non-smoking employee in his Department has the right to work in a smoke-free area; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Dorrell

It is the Department's policy to move as quickly as possible, after local discussions and agreement, to provide a smoke-free environment for those of its employees who wish it. Implementation of this policy has been piloted in selected buildings and a programme leading to full introduction of a smoke-free working environment now forms part of the Department's accommodation strategy. It will not be possible to guarantee every non-smoking employee a smoke-free area until the Department's current accommodation strategy is implemented fully by summer 1993.
