HL Deb 19 December 1991 vol 533 c80WA
Lord Avebury

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether, in view of the fact that religion is not mentioned in the White Paper Custody Care and Justice, they will set up a working party, chaired by a person acceptable to all religions, to make recommendations on the role of religious bodies, and the administration of religious activities in the prisons of England and Wales.

Earl Ferrers

The Government are not satisfied that such a working party is necessary. The prison service already attaches great importance to ensuring that prisoners are able to practise their religion and that they have access to the appropriate minister to provide religious guidance.
