HL Deb 19 December 1991 vol 533 c85WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What progress is being made in negotiations concerning the gold reserves deposited with banks in Britain by Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania prior to the invasion of those countries ordered by Stalin; and when they expect to be able to make an announcement.

The Minister of State, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (The Earl of Caithness)

Our discussions in November with delegations from each of the Baltic states were friendly and positive. We look forward to meeting representatives of the three Baltic governments in the New Year to take matters forward, with a view to reaching an early final settlement of all outstanding financial issues.
