HC Deb 17 December 1991 vol 201 c136W
Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what recent consultations he has had and proposes to have with the Director General of OFWAT concerning the diversification proposals of Welsh Water plc with the public electricity supply industry; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

The diversification proposals of Welsh Water plc are a matter for the company and its shareholders. The Water Industry Act 1991 and the licence appointing water and sewerage companies protects the core business, in this case Dwr Cymru Cyfymgedig, and the interests of customers. The Director General of Water Services has amended the licence to ensure sufficent information is available to allow him to protect the interests of customers.

Mr. Morgan

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what consultations he has had with the Director General of OFWAT concerning the commercial value and content of the consultancy work placed by Welsh Water plc with the LEK Partnership since Mr. lain Evans became a non-executive director of Welsh Water.

Mr. Nicholas Bennett

None. This is a matter for the company and its shareholders.
