§ Sir Gerard VaughanTo ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what information he has about rents, mortgage repayments and mortgage interest receivable by Reading borough council and about arrears in the collection of these.
§ Sir George YoungInformation about local authority rental income, interest on loans granted and rent arrears is collected on housing revenue account subsidy claim forms submitted by local authorities to the Department. For 1991–92 Reading borough council's claim form shows the following estimates:
- income from rents and charges in respect of Housing Revenue Account dwellings, £12,258,726;
- interest receivable for 1991–92 on loans granted in respect of former HRA dwellings, £811,667;
- arrears of rents owed by current tenants as at end of last collection period for 1991–92, £920,000;
- arrears of rents owed by former tenants as at end of the last collection period of 1991–92, £100,000.
The Department does not collect information about mortgage repayments receivable by individual local authorities, arrears of these, nor arrears of mortgage interest.
