HC Deb 12 December 1991 vol 200 c512W
14. Mr. Skinner

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland whether he has any plans for new political initiatives in Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Brooke

I am currently in contact with the main constitutional parties in Northern Ireland and the Irish Government, to see whether a new basis for fresh talks can be established. I am pleased to say that there is a general desire to make substantive progress in the period before the election and a general acceptance that the key elements of my statement to the House on 26 March 1991 should apply in any fresh talks.
