Mr. McAvoy

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the 10 contractors who have received the largest share of motorway and trunk road construction contracts in Scotland in the last three years, giving for each contractor the total value of the contracts received.

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will show total expenditure by all Scottish local highway authorities from 1980–81 to 1991–92 on(a) new construction and improvement, (b) structural maintenance and (c) current maintenance.

The information requested, as far as it is available, is set out in the table. Expenditure by Scottish local authorities on structural road maintenance is not recorded separately but is included within new construction and improvement.
