To ask the Secretary of State for Energy if he will list all building works approved by his Department for(a) the Sellafield and Calder works and (b) Chapelcross since 1979, indicating which of these projects, once complete, would be subject to Euratom safeguards.

Building works at the sites mentioned by the hon. Member are operational matters for British Nuclear Fuels plc—BNFL—subject to planning and other consents. All civil nuclear material in British Nuclear Fuels plc facilities is subject to Euratom safeguards and to the terms of the UK-IAEA-Euratom safeguards agreement.
