HC Deb 06 December 1991 vol 200 c244W
Mr. Ken Hargreaves

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement giving the amount of support for victims of crime in Lancashire from 1987 to the last year for which figures are available.

Mr. John Patten

The table gives details of the victim support schemes in Lancashire which are funded by the Home Office to provide help and support for victims of crime.

allow police forces to intervene in cases where trespassers are moved on but are thought likely to resume their trespass elsewhere.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

Trespass is essentially a matter for the civil law, but section 39 of the Public Order Act 1986 was introduced specifically to give police powers to deal with aggravated trespass. We recently conducted a thorough public review of section 39. On 22 May the Home Secretary announced his conclusion: no change to the law was required but guidance would be issued to the police on the application of section 39. This was done on 22 May. The decision whether or not to use their powers remains entirely an operational matter for the senior officer at the scene.
