Mr. Maxton

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give(a) the total number of private and voluntary sector hospital beds, (b) the number of private and voluntary sector acute beds, (c) the total number of national health service beds and (d) the number of national health service acute beds in Scottish hospitals in each year since 1979.

assuming this is introduced at the beginning of 1992–93, with (1) the current system of tax allowances and (2) all tax allowances and reliefs, except the single person's allowance, restricted to the basic rate, giving the numbers in each case who are taken out of tax altogether.
