§ Mr. WorthingtonTo ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the allotted capital expenditure for local authorities on education in cash and constant price terms since 1979.
§ Mr. Michael ForsythThe information given in the following table records actual capital expenditure in each year, taken from local authority financial returns. The fall 257W in expenditure in real terms during the period reflects a substantial and progressive decline in school pupil numbers which has reduced the requirement for new school building.
