HC Deb 30 April 1991 vol 190 c133W
Mr. Fraser

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he has any plans to amend or vary the appropriate regulations on conservation areas to prevent the demolition of tombs which are less than 115 cu m in size and which have an important historical interest.

Sir George Young

My right hon. Friend has no plans to amend the direction in paragraph 97 of circular 8/87 which exempts from conservation area controls any building with a total cubic content not exceeding 115 cu m.

If a building in a conservation area smaller than 115 cu m is of sufficient architectural or historic interest it can be listed and will then be subject to the more extensive listed building controls.
