HC Deb 29 April 1991 vol 190 c25W
Sir David Steel

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what estimate the Government have made of(a) the aid requirements of the Iraqi refugees over the next six months and (b) the United Kingdom's contribution to this; and from which budget the United Kingdom's funds will come.

Mrs. Chalker

No such estimates have been made. The appeals launched by the international agencies alone total over US$620 million. So far, the United Kingdom has made available £21 million for refugee assistance, as well as the aid share of the costs of the airbridge and Operation Haven. These costs are being met from the overseas aid programme.
