HC Deb 29 April 1991 vol 190 cc77-8W
Mr. Dobson

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give for each year from 1979–80, including 1991–92, the number of staff actually employed on 1 April and the full complement of staff, including vacant posts, by grade, (1) in the statistical divisions in his Department; and if he will differentiate between staff in statistical posts and staff in administrative posts;

(2) in the statistical divisions in the Training Agency/MSC; and if he will differentiate between staff in statistical posts and staff in administrative posts.

Mr. Jackson

The numbers of staff, by grade, employed on 1 April 1991 in statistical divisions in the Department of Employment headquarters—including statistical sections previously in the Training Agency—the Employment Service Agency and the Health and Safety Executive are as in the table below. The number of permanent staff included is close to the current complement. The complement of casual administrative staff varies over time. More such staff will be employed as necessary to process the 1991 "New Earnings Survey" and the 1991 census of employment.

The information readily available for earlier years has already been given, in replies to the hon. Member on 15 March 1990, 15 March 1989 and 21 July 1988.
