HC Deb 31 October 1990 vol 178 cc598-9W
32. Mr. Roger King

To ask the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is the level of inward United Kingdom investment in the engineering sector in the last 12 months.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

The latest figures readily available to the Invest in Britain Bureau are for the 12 months to June 1990. During this time known inward investments decisions, within manufacturing industry, to locate in the United Kingdom were 279. These include the establishment of new business, expansion or acquisition of an existing business and involvement in joint venture. The projects were expected to create over 25,000 jobs and to have safeguarded a further 35,000. The figures are based on information provided by the companies themselves at the time of the investment and take no account of subsequent developments.
