§ Mr. DorrellWe have recently published details of two initiatives to improve services for people with a mental illness, including Alzheimer's disease. First, from next April health authorities, in collaboration with social services authorities, will be required to introduce more systematic arrangements for assessing the needs of individuals for health and social care. Second, we have announced a new specific grant to local authorities, which should increase expenditure on such care by £30 million in 1991–92.
