§ Lord Monkswellasked Her Majesty's Government:
What action they are taking to safeguard the visiting rights of families of remand prisoners who would usually be in custody in Strangeways Prison, Manchester.
Earl FerrersThose inmates who were transferred from H.M. Prison Manchester to other prison service establishments after the disturbance have continued to enjoy the visiting entitlements which are set out under Prison Standing Order 5, a copy of which is in the Library of the House. Assistance with the travel costs of visits to prison inmates may be available for close relatives who are on low incomes under the assisted prison visits scheme. The scheme covers visits to convicted inmates who are serving sentences of more than three months, and to unconvicted inmates who have been in custody for at least four weeks.
