Dr. Thomas

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what extra expenditure has been incurred by his Department in 1990–91 following the assumption of responsibility for that part of the United Kingdom mission in Vienna which deals with the International Atomic Energy Agency; and what changes to his Department's cash limits have been made in consequence of the change in responsibilities.

Mr. Lennox-Boyd

The estimated cost to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office of assuming responsibility for that part of the United Kingdom mission in Vienna which deals with the International Atomic Energy Agency in 1990–91 is £200,000. Subject to parliamentary approval, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office cash limits for class 2 vote 1 and its running cost limits will be increased in due course.

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether any discussions have taken place with his counterpart in the People's Republic of China on the provision of radioactive waste management technology from the United Kingdom to the Daya Bay nuclear installation in the People's Republic of China.

No such discussions have taken place.
