§ Mr. SpellerTo ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations he has received from the Nigerian Government for assistance in training police or military personnel.
§ Mr. WaldegraveAt the request of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the United Kingdom has agreed to provide assistance in the training of Nigerian police officers. A joint project is currently being put together, supported by funds from the Overseas Development Administration's technical co-operation programme. The project involves the provision of a team of five British police officers as advisers to the Nigerian police force for two years. Nigerians have for many years attended a variety of military training courses in the United Kingdom. Training assistance is also provided in Nigeria.
