HL Deb 21 November 1990 vol 523 c26WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What was the catchment area of the Millbank Autistic Unit for severely disturbed and withdrawn children which Westminster City proposes to close; what effect such a closure would have on provision for London and adjoining areas and what alternative provision would be made and where.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of the Environment (Baroness Blatch)

The closure of Millbank Autistic Unit is a matter for Westminster Education Authority. There are five children at the unit. Two children are residents of Westminster, and Westminster will remain responsible for meeting the special educational needs of those children by finding suitable alternative provision. The "home" LEAs for the other children will be responsible for meeting their needs through provision alternative to Millbank.
