§ Mr. John PattenOur proposals for a coherent statutory framework for sentencing, so that the sentence reflects the seriousness of the crime, were set out in the White Paper, "Crime, Justice and Protecting the Public" (Cm. 965). We will introduce legislation to implement those proposals as soon as parliamentary time allows.
