§ Mr. BerminghamTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will list all deaths during 1990 of persons detained in prison department establishments, stating in each case the age and sex of the inmate, the cause of the death, the inquest verdict, the establishment where the inmate was held, whether the death occurred in the prison or in an outside hospital, whether the inmate was sentenced or on remand and whether the inmate was occupying a single cell, multi-occupied cell, on the punishment block or in the prison hospital.
§ Mrs. RumboldAlmost all the information requested was given in the reply that I gave to a question from the hon. Member for Huddersfield (Mr. Sheerman) on 29 October 1990 at columns351–54. Information about whether the inmate was occupying a single or shared cell at the time of death was not included in that reply, and is not readily available in a number of cases. I shall include this information when I write to the hon. Member for Huddersfield and send a copy of that letter to the hon. Member.
