HC Deb 01 November 1990 vol 178 c737W
Mr. Harry Barnes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what information he holds on the number of cases in which defendants initially plead that they are not guilty and elect for their trials to go before a Crown court and subsequently have their cases transferred to a magistrates court; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Patten

Defendants do not enter a plea before electing Crown court trial and cases committed for trial there are not referred back to be tried at a magistrates court.
