Mr. Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proportion of those individuals granted a licensed teacher award on 30 September have qualifications gained overseas.

Mr. Fallon

A total of 230 licences to teach had been granted up to 30 September 1990 of which 117 licensed teachers hold qualifications gained overseas.

Mr. Murphy

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science how many applications for the granting of a licence under the licensed teacher scheme had been received and granted by his Department on 30 June and 30 September respectively.

Up to 30 June 1990 a total of 68 applications for a licence to teach had been received by the Department all of which were accepted and licences to teach were granted. From 1 July 1990 to 30 September a further 164 applications were received, of which 162 were accepted and licences to teach were granted.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what qualifications are held by those individuals granted a licensed teacher award on 30 September.

Between 1 September 1989 and 30 September 1990, 230 licences to teach were granted, of which 187 of those licensed teachers are graduates.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of those individuals who have been granted the award of licensed teacher since September 1989 have an existing qualification in the secondary shortage subjects of mathematics, physics, computer and design technology and modern languages.
