HC Deb 01 November 1990 vol 178 c741W
Mr. Simon Hughes

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what were the total policing costs arising from the Labour party conference in Blackpool; and what proportion of the cost will be met by local authorities.

Mr. Peter Lloyd

I understand from the chief constable of Lancashire that the additional costs of policing the Labour party conference in Blackpool were £97,545. The additional costs of policing will be met by Lancashire police authority. Under the normal police funding arrangements, the Government contribute both directly through police grant—which is at 51 per cent.—and indirectly through revenue support grant.
