HC Deb 01 November 1990 vol 178 c722W
Mr. Sillars

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) what resources are available to the Govan initiative to fund the annual revenue costs for staffing and related educational costs in respect of the proposed nursery school at Merrick gardens, Ibrox;

(2) what proportion of the money Govan initiative intends to spend on the construction of a nursery school at Merrick gardens, Ibrox, comes from (a) central Government, (b) the Scottish Development Agency, (c) local government and (d) the initiative's own resources.

Mr. Lang

Approval under the urban programme was given on 9 May 1990 for a child care project which was to operate from three locations in the area of the Govan initiative. The approved costs were £279,200 in capital and £247,369 in annual running costs, initially for four years. Central Government grant would meet 75 per cent, of these costs with the balance to be provided by Strathclyde regional council. Merrick gardens was not however one of the proposed locations for this project and the Industry Department for Scotland has not been approached about any proposed change to the approved project.
