§ Mr. EggarThe five modern foreign languages most commonly taught in maintained schools in England are, in order of popularity, French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian. A number of other languages are taught to a lesser extent. Schools in Wales are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Wales.
