§ Ms. ShortTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will give for each region and for Great Britain as a whole the number of ET trainees who have been recruited under the skill shortage category, in numbers and as a proportion of all ET recruits, for each quarter since ET began; and if he will outline what criteria were used when locally defining what is a skill shortage area of training.
Mr. JacksonThe information requested about the number and proportions of skill shortage entrants to employment can be provided only at disproportionate cost. It would not be appropriate to set national criteria for defining local skill shortage occupations.
§ Ms. ShortTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment (1) for each region and for Great Britain as a whole, for each quarter since June 1989, what was the number of trainees on employment training who were on placements with employers or on placements in projects;
(2) if he will give for each region and for Great Britain as a whole for the latest available period the characteristics of entrants to ET showing (a) the number of male and female entrants, (b) their ethnic origins, (c) their duration of unemployment and (d) whether they had a disability.

§ Ms. ShortTo ask the Secretary of State for Employment what is the best estimate he has for the numbers and amounts of ET overpayments which have taken place since the start of the programme, including(a) overpayment of individual ET training allowances, numbers and amounts, (b) overpayment of grants to training agents and (c) overpayment of grants to training managers; how much has been recovered; how much has been written off; and if he will make a statement.
