Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he has any plans to improve the A19 throughout the Easington constituency by the provision of a hard standing.

Mr. Chope

Yes. One metre strips will be provided as part of the future road maintenance programme.

Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport when was the last time he made an official journey from Dishforth to the north via the A19; and whether he has any plans to do so in the near future.

Mr. Chope

Since taking up my current ministerial duties I have not made an official journey from Dishforth to the north on the A19, nor have I any plans to do so.

Mr. Cummings

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to(a) improve lighting, (b) improve drainage, (c) improve the access road at Cold Hasledon, (d) install emergency telephones and, (e) provide a footbridge from Peterlee houses to the Peterlee industrial estate on the A19 and throughout the Easington constituency; and if he will make a statement.

For the section of the A19 in the Easington constituency the Department

  1. a. is considering the provision of lighting on a section of the route;
  2. b. will improve drainage as necessary under normal maintenance operations;
  3. c. is considering the need to improve the junction at Cold Hasledon;
  4. d. has no plans to install emergency telephones, or
  5. e. to provide a footbridge at Peterlee.
