HC Deb 24 May 1990 vol 173 c351W
Mr. Wigley

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many new factory units have been built, and how much industrial land has been purchased by the Welsh Development Agency in Gwynedd during the past 12 months.

Mr. David Hunt

During the 1989–90 financial year the Welsh Development Agency completed 10 units totalling 19.5k sq ft at Porthmadog. Presently under construction are 18 units measuring 56k sq ft at Gaerwen and 14 units measuring 27k sq ft at Cibyn industrial estate, Caernarfon. The Welsh Development Agency will shortly be starting the construction of a 12k sq ft business centre at Parc Menai, near Bangor, which will be followed later in the year by four high specification units totalling 20k sq ft. During this financial year the Welsh Development Agency also intends to start construction on rural workshop schemes at Llangefni and Porthmadog each measuring some 10k sq ft.

Land acquisitions in the county over the same period total 45 acres, and an option to purchase a further 20.5 acres was also completed in the year. Efforts to identify further strategic sites in the region are continuing.
