§ Mr. SumbergTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Security whether there have been any changes to the cash limits or running costs limit of his Department for 1990–91.
§ Mr. ScottSubject to parliamentary approval of the necessary supplementary estimate, the cash limit for class XIV, vote 7 (administration and miscellaneous services) will be increased by £3,080,000 from £1,703,179,000 to £1,706,259,000. The revision takes account of the work involved in the change to capital limits announced by my right hon. Friend the Chancellor of the Exchequer in his Budget statement (£4,520,000); increased activity in the recovery of maintenance payments from liable relatives (£6,750,000); a transfer to the Department of Health (class XIII, vote 3) of £3,561,000; a transfer from Lord Chancellor's Department (class X, vote 1) of £103,000; a transfer from Treasury Solicitors Department (class X, vote 9) of £47,000 and a transfer from Department of the Environment (property holdings) (class VIII, vote 7) of £1,500,000. The additional requirements are partially offset by an increase in receipts from the national insurance fund to the vote of £6,279,000. The balance will be charged to the reserve and will therefore not add to the planned total of public expenditure. As a result of the changes the running costs limit of the Department of Social Security is increased by £7,859,000 from £1,922,467,000 to £1,930,326,000.
