HL Deb 14 May 1990 vol 519 cc147-8WA
Lord O'Hagan

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will seek to co-operate with MEPs in attempting to secure grants from the European Commission for training and enterprise councils; and

What undertakings they have received from the European Commission that training and enterprise councils will be eligible for grants from the European Social Fund.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Employment (Lord Strathclyde)

Such undertakings from the European Commission are not required. Provided the projects submitted by Training and Enterprise Councils are eligible for European Social Fund support under the Regulations which govern the Fund they will be considered along with those of other applicants. Under the new procedures of the reformed Structural Funds, project applications have yet to be made for funding in 1990.
