HL Deb 14 May 1990 vol 519 c147WA
Lord Strathcarron

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Why ice cream vans are allowed to park on the double yellow lines outside the museums on Cromwell Road for long periods without let or hindrance, thereby reducing the road from three to two lanes.

The Minister of State, Home Office (Earl Ferrers)

Ice cream vans are not allowed to park illegally on Cromwell Road. I understand from the Commissioner that the parking restrictions are enforced regularly and consistently by the police. In March and April of this year there have been 19 occasions where ice cream vendors have been arrested at this location and charged with unlawful obstruction and street trading without a licence. Numerous oral warnings and parking tickets have also been issued.
