To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what percentage of(a) English and (b) Cornish children go into further and higher education.

Twenty-nine per cent. of all English school leavers go on the full-time courses in further and higher education; whereas 37 per cent. of Cornish school leavers do so. However, 29 per cent. of children in Cornwall choose to stay on in school at 16, as opposed to 33 per cent. in the country as a whole.
