§ Mr. MacleanLocal authorities are responsible for enforcing the legislation to safeguard the welfare of animals at abattoirs. In addition, officers of the State Veterinary Service visit all abattoirs to monitor welfare standards and to give advice.
In so far as veterinary surgeons may have responsibilities in abattoirs, they are subject to the code of professional ethics of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
