21. Mr. William Ross

To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many applications by the Royal Ulster Constabulary for the extradition of persons sought for terrorist-type crimes have been made during the last 10 years to the Irish Republic; and how many persons have subsequently been handed over.

Mr. Cope

During the past 10 years the Royal Ulster Constabulary has requested the return of 51 persons for terrorist offences from the Irish Republic. Six persons have subsequently been returned, three of them in the past 20 months.
