Mr. Jackson

It is the Government's intention that, subject to the passage of the Education (Student Loans) Bill, the student loans scheme will be administered by the Student Loans Company. Preparatory work on the scheme is well in hand. The company has appointed senior staff, acquired premises in Glasgow and is presently testing the main computer system.

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science when he plans to issue further details of his proposals for a student loan scheme.

Mr. Jackson

My right hon. Friend will keep the House fully informed as to the development of the student loans scheme. Details of the certification and application process, the role of the academic institutions and arrangements for loans to minors were announced on 22 March,Official Report, column 709.
