HC Deb 27 March 1990 vol 170 c177W
50. Mr. Patrick Thompson

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what evidence he has as to whether there is any correlation between the spending on education of local education authorities and the results achieved as they are monitored by examinations.

Mrs. Rumbold

I refer my hon. Friend to the reply that I gave to my hon. Friend the Member for Pembroke (Mr. Bennett) on 18 January,Official Report, column 334. That shows that many authorities with relatively low spending per pupil achieve good examination results.
