HC Deb 27 March 1990 vol 170 c123W
Mr. Beith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make public the findings of the diplomatic mission which visited Cambodia in late 1989.

Mrs. Chalker

The main conclusions of the British mission to Cambodia last December have been passed on to interested non-governmental organisations in Britain. The report itself is an internal working document. I announced on 8 January column702 the approach that we shall be taking to assistance for Cambodians as a result of the mission.

Mr. Beith

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he will propose to his European Community colleagues the establishment of an European Economic Community assessment mission to be sent to Cambodia.

Mrs. Chalker

EC Commissioner Matutes made a visit to the region in January. An EC Indo-China refugee co-ordinator will be appointed to monitor the situation and EC involvement throughout the region. The EC also plans to increase its humanitarian assistance programmes for Cambodians, channelling funds through non-governmental organisations.
