HC Deb 22 March 1990 vol 169 cc752-3W
64. Mr. Dunn

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department what steps have been taken to support victims of crime; and what compensation is available to them.

Mr. John Patten

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer given to a question from my hon. Friend the Member for Chelmsford (Mr. Burns).

62. Mr. Kim Howells

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he will now collect information on prosecutions and convictions in sufficient detail to identify the sex of victims in each police force in England and Wales.

Mr. John Patten

We have no plans to do so. Special studies of victims are published from time to time and the sex of the victim is already known in homicide cases and for nearly all sexual offences. To record the victim's sex for all offences would greatly add to the collection of costs.
