HC Deb 21 March 1990 vol 169 c626W
Mr. Dalyell

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what assessment he has made of the effect of the students' loan scheme on the likelihood of graduates entering mathematics, chemistry and physics teaching in schools.

Mr. Jackson

Top-up loans will offer eligible students additional resources on favourable terms, regardless of their course or their subsequent choice of career. Repayments will not be burdensome and may be deferred when income is less than 85 per cent. of national average earnings: equivalent to about £11,500 in today's circumstances.
